TransTap Keyboard
Write in the language you're learning, however you can. Hold Return, and your text is replaced with the way native speakers usually say it, right in the chat, before you send.
Getting started
- Open TransTap Keyboard and pick the language you type in and the one you're learning.
- Go to Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards › Add New Keyboard and choose TransTap.
- Tap TransTap in that list and turn on Allow Full Access. It's needed only to translate.
- In any app, hold the globe key and choose TransTap. Type a message, then hold Return for about a second.
Questions
Why does it need Full Access?
iOS only lets a keyboard reach the internet with Full Access. TransTap uses it to send the text you choose to translate, and nothing else. Typing works without it. See the Privacy Policy.
Does holding Return send my message?
No. It only replaces the text in the field. You send it yourself.
Which languages can I learn?
English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese and Chinese. Each comes with its keyboard.
Is translation free?
The built-in service includes 30 free translations a day, up to 500 a month. You can see what's left on the Translation card in the app. For more, add an API key of your own for OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, OpenRouter or another compatible service; translations then go straight to that service and are billed by it.
Translation doesn't work
- Check that Full Access is on for TransTap (Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards › TransTap).
- Open the TransTap app once and allow translation if it asks.
- Check your internet connection. If you use your own key, check it on the Translation card in the app.
The keyboard doesn't appear in some fields
iOS uses its own keyboard for passwords and some other secure fields. That's expected.
